There are so many theme parks in Orlando area that it can be understandably confusing to keep them straight and to decide which one to visit. While there are several smaller amusement parks, the two big ones are Disney World and Universal Studios. They both have their advantages, and each is right for a different type of traveler. Let’s take a look at what we mean.
Understanding the Basics
Disney World is a massive theme park area that includes 4 different parks:
Universal Orlando has 2 theme parks:
For both parks, you’ll have numerous options when you buy your tickets, including buying a ticket to just a single park. For example, you may purchase a 1-day ticket to just The Magic Kingdom, or you may purchase a 1-day ticket to just Universal Studios. You can also purchase discount tickets that give you access on numerous days, but just one park per day, or you can purchase a ticket that allows you to go back and forth between parks on the same day.
The Best Park for Thrill Lovers
There’s no question that if your party is made up of thrill lovers, Islands of Adventure is the right choice. While the Disney World theme parks each have a few roller coasters in each of them, and Universal Studios has a few roller coasters, too, Islands of Adventure blows them out of the water in terms of the sheer number of coasters, plus the thrill-factor.
The Best Park for Families with Small Children
Families with small children have several options – it really depends on which shows and movies your kids most enjoy. If your kids are big fans of classic Disney cartoons, then the Magic Kingdom is the best bet. You’ll find rides and attractions based on Winnie the Pooh, the Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, and more!
If your kids are fans of the Disney Jr. shows, then they’ll love Hollywood Studios, where they can meet many characters up front and personal. On the other hand, if your kids love Dr. Seuss, they’ll find tons of fun to be had at Universal Studio’s many Dr. Seuss themed attractions and rides.
The Best Park for Adults Traveling Without Children
If you’re a group or couple of adults, you can take a look at the rides at each park to decide what will work best for you. If you’re looking to try new foods and some unique adult beverages, consider the World Showcase at EPCOT, where you can sample your way through the culinary traditions of the world – with a few drinks for good measure.
